According to rumours, Beyonce Knowles and her rapper boyfriend Jay-Z, have got married in a private ceremony in New York on Friday.
The couple were recently seen applying for a marriage license leading to speculation that there would soon be wedding bells. A friend told the People magazine “It happened earlier this evening. Jay wanted it to be a really private affair - close friends and family.”
Beyonce, 26-years-old and Jay-Z, 37, who’s real name is Shawn Carter, were joined for their marriage by their parents, Beyonce’s sister, Solange and a group of friends including, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, and of course Beyonce’s band-mates from Destiny’s Child, Kelly Rowland and Michele Williams.
After the ceremony guests attended a lavish party at Jay’s apartment where a huge marquee had been installed on the top of the building in TriBeCa, the fashionable New York district.
A celebrity florist was allegedly asked to provide 50,000 white orchids from Thailand to decorate the reception area which also featured a 5ft tall candelabra. All the women wore white and all guests were asked not to bring mobile phones inside the venue.
The couple have been dating for 6 years since getting together for Jay’s single ‘03 Bonnie and Clyde’ and they are now one of the most successful couples in the R & B and hip-hop world. Beyonce is reported to be worth about £15 million while Jay, a seven-times Grammy winner is supposedly about to sign a £75 million touring deal.
