A host of TV’s stars including Dermot O’Leary, Ben Price, Julie Walters CBE, Angela Griffin, Matt Horne and Fay Ripley have joined Disney Junior UK in a bid to collect a million Disney memories in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity – see attached for TV celebrities and their first Disney memories and video clips featuring Fay Ripley and Angela Griffin offering their first Disney memory. We also have interviews with Ben Price and Angela Griffin if you’re interested.

The public are being asked to head over to www.facebook.com/disneyjunioruk and donate their first Disney memory to the campaign, which Disney will turn into £1million for the hospital when they hit the magic number of 1,000,000 memories.

Sir Michael Caine says: “I remember crying my eyes out when Bambi died and laughing my head off at the Seven Dwarfs. My favourite Disney villain? The Wicked Witch in Snow White. My First hero was Mickey Mouse and he’s my favourite.”

Disney Junior’s Million Disney Memories campaign was created following new research, which found that 92% of UK parents and grandparents believe memories of Disney characters stay with you for life and more than half of the British Public have shared their own Disney memories with their family.

Mel C who ‘donated’ her memory says: “I think Disney is something that we’ve all grown up with and it’s so nice now, being a parent, that my daughter can enjoy all the characters that I have enjoyed, so we share it together. Getting involved is really simple – you tell Disney Junior your memory and once they have collected a million, these memories will turn into money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. It’s a great cause so I urge everyone to share their Disney memories to help us reach our target.”

Dame Elizabeth Taylor has died in a Los Angeles hospital at the age of 79 following a long history of health problems. She was most recently being treated for symptoms of congestive heart failure and was in the company of her four children when she passed away.

Elizabeth Taylor will be remembered as much for her life off screen as much as her achievements on it, her on off affair and marriages to Richard Burton were legendary in the media during the sixties.

She went on to wed no less than seven husbands, including Burton who was her fifth, following marriages to Conrad Hilton Jr, Michael Wilding, Michael Todd and Eddie Fisher.

She married Burton in 1964 in what appeared to be a fairytale romance, but the couple shared a tempestuous relationship that would lead to divorce and then remarriage in 1975.

Taylor would subsequently marry two more husbands in the form of John W Warner and Larry Fortensky.

As a child star Taylor was thrust into the spotlight of a starring role in the film National Velvet and it was on the set of this film that she fell while filming, leading to a lifetime of back problems.

In 1961 she beat off a rare strain of pneumonia and has battled with drink and painkiller addiction over the years. In the 1990s, she endured two hip replacement operations and another near-fatal bout of pneumonia and survived surgery for a benign brain tumour in 1997.

In 2004, it was revealed that she was suffering from congestive heart failure, with symptoms including fatigue and shortness of breath, and scoliosis, which twisted her spine.

Elizabeth Taylor was at her acting peak during the 50s and 60s, earning four Oscar nominations in a row from 1958 to 1961, she finally triumphed for her role in Butterfield 8 and picked up a second Oscar win in 1967 for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?.

In addition to her four children – Michael Wilding, Christopher Wilding, Maria Burton-Carson and Liza Todd-Tivey – Dame Elizabeth is survived by 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Following the Oscars, a series of stars have lined up to condemn unsafe unfair control orders, which have been repackaged as Terrorism Prevention and Investigation Measures (TPIM) by the Coalition Government.

Academy award winners Emma Thompson and Annie Lennox joined with Honor Blackman, Simon Callow and Riz Ahmed to back Liberty’s campaign against Government proposals to continue the regime.

Despite a new name and tweaks to some conditions, the new “control order-lite” will still constitute punishment without trial, ruining innocents’ lives and allowing potentially dangerous people to evade prosecution.

The celebrities added their voices to the 3,000 members of the public who signed Liberty’s 2010 control order petition in protest at the worst legislative legacy of the war on terror. Both coalition partners opposed the regime while in opposition.

The rebranded system will still include electronic tagging and a residence requirement. Controlees will not be able to meet with certain people or go to certain buildings – although it will be easier for them to use the internet.

The control orders will be limited to two years, however if it is possible to make a new order as soon as the existing one expires, then this constraint would be illusory.

Crucially, the orders will still be initiated by the Home Secretary and the regime will continue to run outside the criminal justice system of investigation, arrest, charge and conviction.

Actor Emma Thompson said:

“I’ve seen for myself the damage control orders have done to entirely innocent people. I think they make dangerous people even more dangerous.”

While writer, actor and director Simon Callow added:

“We must fight terror by asserting our values, not by negating them. Control orders are fundamentally unjust; they must go.”

Musician and activist Annie Lennox said:

“Anyone subject to a control order is living under constant and indefinite suspicion – not just from the authorities, but from their communities, friends and all who know them. Control orders by-pass criminal justice and the safeguards that guarantee fair trial.”

Shami Chakrabarti, director of Liberty added:

“The Government bottled it on control orders and proposes to keep a regime which ruins innocent lives but tips off the truly dangerous. These famous friends of Liberty share the hopes of the British public – for terror suspects to be charged and prosecuted within the criminal justice system.”

Liberty’s submission to the Home Secretary’s Review of Counter-Terror and Security Powers, ‘From War to Law’, is available to download from the Liberty website; as is Liberty’s petition on control orders is.

The former Hollywood actress and sex symbol Jane Russell has died at her home in California aged 89 years old it has been reported.

Russell was originally discovered by the eccentric millionaire Howard Hughes who gave the young actress her first Hollywood break when he cast her in his 1943 movie The Outlaw. Her sultry performance in the now classic film led to censors banning the film for two years.

In the 1940s and 50s Jane Russell was a pin up girl to rival Marilyn Monroe and the pair actually starred together in another classic, Gentleman Prefer Blonde’s in 1953, but her film career had faded by the 1960s.

Russell was married three times and adopted three children. Her negative experiences with authorities during the adoption process led to the star founding the World Adoption International Agency, which has gone on to help tens of thousands of children from overseas find adoptive parents in the USA.

Jane Russell died at home in California from a respiratory related illness, having remained active in her community up until a few weeks ago.

The gorgeous Spanish actress Penelope Cruz gave birth to a baby boy on Tuesday, the first child for Cruz and husband Javier Bardem.

The baby boy who has yet to be named was delivered on the same day that 41 year old Bardem was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor for his role in the film The Biutiful.

Spanish newspaper El Pais broke the news to the world saying that the baby had been born in the world famous Cedar Sinai hospital in Los Angeles.

Penelope and Javier were married in a low key ceremony in the Caribbean last July having started dating in 2007 after starring together in the classic Woody Allen film Vicky Cristina – Barcelona.

The couple have known each other for many years, originally meeting on the set of Penelope’s first ever film, Jamon Jamon, when the actress was only eighteen years old.

Despite the constant gaze of the media and celebrity hungry public, the couple have managed to enjoy a reasonably low key profile since their relationship has blossomed.

When Javier collected his Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival in May last year he paid tribute to his soon to be wife in his acceptance speech, saying: “I share this joy with my friend, my companion, my love, Penelope: I owe you a lot and I love you so much.”

Following the sad news of the death of British actress Susannah York last weekend, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have paid tribute to the work that Susannah has been involved in for the UK Charity organisation.

Susannah York, RIP

We are sad to hear of the death of acclaimed actress and PETA supporter Susannah York, 72, from cancer. Susannah devoted time to numerous good causes over the years. She was active in supporting efforts to stop cruelty to dogs in Taiwan.

In 1998, Susannah joined Liberal Democrat MP Norman Baker and PETA staff, including PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk, in delivering a dossier to the Taiwanese Embassy in London highlighting the horrific maltreatment of dogs who were unfortunate enough to end up in pounds in that country.

The embassy denied entry to the animal protection advocates, so they stood outside in the cold, showing PETA’s photographs of the dog drowning tanks where strays and lost dogs were submerged to die; dogs left to starve to death in metal crates, some cannibalizing the others, in hideous huts near the rubbish tips, where a swift kick from a booted foot was the only contact with humans many of them ever had.

“There are 80 dog pounds in Taiwan and PETA saw animals left without food or water, with terrible skin diseases” Susannah said. “They had to eat each other to stay alive. They also saw mass drownings and even electrocutions.”

Susannah spoke to the delegation from the heart. It took a lot of work, and hard lobbying, but she was part of the success of passing Taiwan’s first animal protection law. With passing of Susannah York the animals have lost a true friend.

The actress was perhaps best remembered for her role in They Shoot Horses Don’t They, opposite Jane Fonda, a role for which York was nominated for an Oscar.

She received critical international acclaim for her roles in films like Tom Jones and A Man For All Seasons and starred alongside movie greats like Marlon Brando, Elizabeth Taylor, Montgomery Clift and Peter O’Toole.

Her first love was for the theatre however and she is equally as well known for her extensive stage career, once claiming that she was as happy in a pub theatre in Islington as she was in Hollywood.

Susannah York also turned her hand to writing childrens books, with fantasy novels The Lark’s Castle and In Search of Unicorns both being published during the 1970s.

York married Michael Wells in 1960 with whom she has two children, Orlando and Sasha. She and Wells were divorced in 1976 and she never remarried.

Polish born actress Ingrid Pitt who became famous in the UK as a seductive screen siren in numerous horror movies, has died in London at the age of 73.

The actress collapsed last week while on the way to a function organised by her fan club in the capital, her daughter Steffanie said that her mother had been in poor health although the actual cause of death is unknown.

The actress survived a Nazi concentration camp and fled communist police in Berlin on the night of her planned acting debut. She plunged into the River Spree to avoid the police and was rescued by an American soldier who later became her husband.

Ingrid moved to America with her husband but when the marriage ended she moved to Spain where she would get her first film acting role after being spotted while watching a bullfight.

Her big movie break came in 1968 in the major action film Where Eagles Dare, but was perhaps best remembered for her part in the Hammer Horror Films and fans dubbed her the England’s First Lady of Horror.

TV star Jennifer Ellison hopes to lose another stone, following the birth of her son Bobby, by choosing a ‘lifestyle nutrition’ diet programme designed by Britain’s fastest growing weight loss company All About Weight.

27 year-old Jennifer had put on weight during pregnancy but was shocked and hurt by vitriolic attacks on her that started appearing on internet message boards when she didn’t immediately return to her former figure following the birth.

“I was just so shocked and hurt. I had a traumatic labour followed by major surgery. I was breastfeeding Bobby, trying to be a good mum and give him the best start I could, yet people were slagging me off about the size of my thighs,” she said.

“It’s disgusting. You wonder how women can be like that about other women, and be so cruel to someone at such a vulnerable time in their life.”

Jennifer chose the All About Weight plan which is a mixture of specially prepared ‘meal packs’ and healthy real foods to reach her target weight of nine stone.

The All About Weight ‘lifestyle nutrition’ programme promotes healthy food and lifestyle choices for life.

Jennifer said: “It’s an easy diet to follow and I don’t feel hungry, and I can sit down with Robbie (husband Robbie Tickle) and have my dinner and not feel like I’m depriving myself.”

“It’s a microwave meal but it’s all healthy and tasty things like chicken and vegetables which fills you up.”

“I hope I can be an inspiration to women who are struggling,” she said.
