It is fair to say that enrolling the biggest ‘A’ list box office stars to appear in your new movie will almost certainly generate more interest from the media and public alike, but does it always result in the movie being a box office smash.

The best paid actor in 2010 was Johnny Depp, definitely one of the best actors of our time, Depp has been prolific in his output throughout his movie career, but he is also one of the most particular when it comes to choosing which films he chooses to accept.

Some of his choices will have had the financial backers crying in their Martini’s over the years, but he has an uncanny ability of bouncing straight back into the next project.

Depp had been at number ten in the 2009 Hollywood rich list, but his huge earnings as The Mad Hatter in the wonderful Tim Burton film Alice in Wonderland on top of a $15million advance for The Tourist have landed the actor at the top of the list, earning $50million in 2010.

Surprisingly, for me at least, the next three highest paid actors are Ben Stiller, Tom Hanks and Adam Sandler, in that order. I am surprised because these are three fine actors, but in my opinion and particularly in the cases of Stiller and Sandler, they can be pretty one dimensional.

To say they are prolific would be an understatement, but to say they are prolifically average would certainly be true. I have enjoyed all three of these actors over the years but I only need to say that Stiller’s income in 2010 was generated from his parts in A Night at the Museum 2 and the next Meet the Fockers movie, to express my complete disappointment.

None the less Ben Stiller has the last laugh as his earnings hit $38million in2010, while Tom Hanks collected $30million and Adam Sandler $26.6million.

One time big screen favourite Brad Pitt is beaten in the biggest pay listings by Leonardo Di Caprio, Daniel Radcliffe, Robert Downey Jnr and Tom Cruise, but just ahead of his good friend George Clooney who makes up the top ten.

With huge flat screen High Definition TV sets now the norm in most households it is no longer necessary to leave home to get the big screen experience of the cinema and companies like Lovefilm.com make it easy to watch all the latest movies from our armchair.

Johnny Depp fans need only to sign up to have access to all of his movies including the aforementioned Alice in Wonderland, along with thousands of other choices.

MarieClaire cover star Vanessa Paradis talks to the UK magazine about Johnny Depp and how the glamorous pair have managed to stay together for over ten years in a world where celebrity pairings seldom seem to last.

Here is an excerpt of the interview;

Do you ever ask Johnny’s advice about a script?
When it comes to planning, yes. Otherwise, very rarely. In fact, we don’t really speak a lot about work when we’re together. We just try to organise ourselves so we can spend as much time as possible together.

Can I ask you about Johnny Depp? How do you keep the passion alive when you’ve been with the same man for 12 years?
First of all, you have to be lucky enough to find the right person. Next, the fact that we’re not together every day plays a big part in keeping our relationship stable. And then we also have a lot of respect and admiration for each other. We understand that, if we want our relationship to continue, we must give each other space, allow each other to go off on our own, and trust each other.

You’re really lucky if you find someone you can trust when you spend time apart. But it’s more complicated than that. Keeping love alive should be like the way you live your life: you don’t eat the same meal every day, you don’t read the same book, you don’t listen to the same CD. When you are a couple, you need to go off alone and discover things for yourself.

What do you most admire about Johnny?
I could make an endless list of all the things I admire about him, but above all I admire his immense loyalty. I love watching him when he’s thoughtful or involved in something. I love observing him when he is talking to people. I love seeing how he deals with situations… I could go on and on, tell you I admire him as an actor, as a father and as the man he is for me. But more than anything, I admire him as a person. Not only when he is talking to me or his mother, but as a person in the world, in all kinds of situations. I think he is magnificent. Truly magnificent.

Do you ever think you’ll make a film together?
A few years ago we were both going to be on the set of Terry Gilliam’s Don Quixote film but shooting stopped. Frankly, the thought of filming with him would scare me to death. It’s not that I don’t want to, but I would be frightened that I wouldn’t be up to his standard because he’s so talented. And I don’t know if I would be able to lie in front of him.

You didn’t have a normal adolescence. If one of your children wanted to follow in your footsteps, how would you react?
To sing and be in the public eye at 14 years old is not something everyone experiences. But do I now wish for the same thing for my children? I don’t know – I would need to think about it for a long time before I could give you an answer.

It has been confirmed that Nicole Richie has been hospitalised , and is being treated for pneumonia at a Los Angeles hospital and is said to be doing well.

The 28-year-old actress missed the the launch of her ‘House of Harlow jewellery’  on the 10th of November, reporting on Twitter that she was suffering from a cold.

Camilla Dallerup, who quit her stint in the jungle on I’m A Celebrity after just three days, has branded the programme ‘The Kate Show’, after the models arrival.

The professional dancer told how the camp were all bonding together well until day three when Katie Price appeared in the camp. Due to the amount of Bushtucker Trial’s that Ms. Price has so far been nominated for, which is practically all of them, I’d say the public feel the same!

Johnny Depp has been voted the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ in the 2009 People’s Magazine poll after last winning the award in 2003.

The 46-year-old actor, best known for his role in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’, beat the likes of Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhall, David Beckham and Robert Pattinson to take the title.

The ‘Father Ted’ actor Frank Kelly, is once again battling cancer after a year in remission following the removal of a tumour on his bowel in 2007.

The 70-year-old, who played the part of Father Jack Hackett in the hit comedy, learnt in December that the cancer had spread to his liver for which he has had further surgery and is now receiving chemotherapy, which could be ongoing for the rest of his life.

Robert Pattinson, has been voted the most sexiest man in the world in the Glamour magazine poll, the favourite choice of 2000 woman.  The 23-year-old, who is best known for his part of the gorgeous vampire Edward in the Twilight movie, beat Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp for the number one spot.

Paula Abdul, has announced on Twitter that she is quitting ‘American Idol’, just two-days before they begin filming for the new series, although no reason for the decision has been given.

Johnny Depp put the smile on some young faces on Wednesday when he made a special visit to the Great Ormond Street hospital dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Depp was in London this week promoting his new film ‘Public Enemies’, but took time out to visit the youngsters where he chatted with patients and staff as well as posing for photographs.

The actress Glenn Close, has been honoured by a star on the Hollywood walk of fame and said that anyone who hates her onscreen characters could now “stomp” on her.

Close, famous for Fatal Attraction and many other roles was the latest of the 2,378th stars on the famous walkway.

All the stars are lining-up for the inaugural celebrations of Barack Obama on Sunday at the Lincoln Memorial.

Beyonce, U2, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, Usher, Shakira, Sheryl Crow, Josh Groban, James Taylor, Stevie Wonder and Mary J. Blige are just some of the top acts expected on stage, which will be televised.

According to reports, the lovely Kelly Brooks has been signed-up as a judge on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.  The 29-year-old actress, will join Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan on the show.

Gareth Gates is too become a father for the first time according to reports.  Gates married his girlfriend Suzanne Mole in July this year.

Guillaume Depardieu, the son of French movie star, Gerard, has died at the age of 37.  The young actor, who has a young daughter, had suffered from a severe bout of pneumonia after being taken ill during filming in Romania at the weekend.

The eight-hour operation took place at the St John and St Elizabeth hospital in North London nearly a week after the singer was declared bankrupt.

According to reports, the actors who completed the movie that was unfinished by Heath Ledger when he died in January, have donated their salaries to Ledger’s daughter, Matilda.

The film ‘The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus’, was completed by Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law but they were concerned for the future of the child.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been voted the Ultimate Gay Icon, according to a new pole.  The 23-year-old football star, was said to have beat the other nominations because of his “ripped body, slicked-back hair, shiny white teeth and jewellery.

The Manchester United player, beat Kylie Minogue, Judy Garland, Elton John, Liza Minnelli, The Village People, David Beckham, George Michael, John Barrowman and Paul O’Grady.

Apparently, Brian McFadden has caused outrage in the gay community after stating that straight men shouldn’t wear pink.

The former Westlife singer, was being interviewed on More FM radio in New Zealand when he made the comment, he added “If you are not gay, a man should not be wearing pink”.

Johnny Depp has apparently been looking to buy a house in the UK, and has spotted the ideal mansion in deepest Norfolk.

He has set his sights on an eight-bedroom, six bathroom home on a sprawling estate about nine miles S/E of Norwich, worth an estimated £5.5 million.

Jade Goody, has been taken to hospital after collapsing with a mystery illness at home.  Her agent said,

“She passed out but was able to call the ambulance herself.  She was losing blood and not in a good way.  At the moment it’s a mystery – they are keeping her in for tests until they can find out what the problem is.  Her mum has been to see her and we just want her to get well again soon.”

It has been reported that the lovely Paris Hilton will be appearing on our screens to do a UK version of her hit series ‘Paris Hilton’s New Best Friend’.

Filming is said to begin in the next couple of months for the ITV series, which have reportedly paid Hilton  £500,00 to front it.
