For celebrities, who are constantly confronted by their own likeness, in newspapers, magazines and the results of their own work, lumps, bumps and problem areas can become a real issue, which is why so many people in the public eye decide to go under the surgeons knife in pursuit of perfection.

For those of us on the outside looking in, surgery can seem like an easy solution to body image issues, and more and more people are heading for places such as the Hospital Group to research cosmetic procedures, spurred on by images of celebrity perfection.

So just who is it that is inspiring us to make these permanent amendments? What have they had done and how has the world received it?

Michael Jackson

The late “King of Pop” was an early convert to the world of cosmetic correction; reportedly undergoing a number of procedures that dramatically altered his appearance over the years. While “Whacko Jacko’s” approach may have been a little over the top, he showed how possible it was to metamorphose into a totally new you by going under the knife.

Katie Price

Britain’s favourite glamour-girl-slash-reality-star-slash-author is a walking advert for plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures, having admitted to a number of surgeries and interventions over the course of her career. While breast augmentations undeniably increased her assets, it was the rhinoplasty that corrected a bump on her nose that has made the most marked impact on her appearance. The mum-of-three has also admitted to having undergone liposuction early on in her career as well as being a well-known devotee of the Botox injection to banish wrinkles.

Heidi Montag

The Hills star Heidi was propelled into the tabloid pages after reportedly undergoing 10 different appearance-altering surgeries in one day. The reality star, who is married to co-star Spencer Pratt said that she lacked confidence in her appearance before the surgery and simply wanted to look more attractive.

To that end, she underwent a brow lift, nose job, facial fat injections, Botox, chin reduction, ear pinning, breast surgery, two rounds of liposuction on her neck and lower body and buttock augmentation within the space of just 24 hours in her quest for perfection.

The blonde bombshell, who was just 23 at the time of the operations and has been criticised by some for succumbing to the Hollywood peer pressure, however she has defended her actions saying it is not for others to judge such personal decisions on matters of appearance.

While not all celebrities admit to their surgeries, for some the results (if that’s what they are) are so subtle that they don’t ever have to. Starlets Jennifer Aniston and Michelle Pfeiffer are both rumoured to have has successful nose jobs early in their careers, while recent speculation has asked whether the naturally youthful Drew Barrymore may have had a little help to stay that way with a brow lift or eyelid surgery.

1. While many fans might miss Michael Jackson, it won’t be because of his bad plastic surgery. It was obvious that Michael was obsessed with his appearance. Michael Jackson had such extensive and numerous surgeries on his face that his bone structure could no longer support anymore. This was especially apparent on his nose.

2. Money wasn’t a plus when it came to Jocelyn Wildenstein’s extensive plastic surgery. This upper-class woman is rumored to have spent as much as $4 million on elective procedures. Jocelyn has had obvious work done on almost every area of her face. The biggest problem with Wildenstein’s surgeries is that they are so noticeable. Unfortunately, the woman no longer looks natural, earning her the nickname “The Bride of Frankenstein.”

3. Abdominal liposuction didn’t turn out to be what Tara Reid expected. Instead of smooth abs, the surgeon left her with a lumpy and uneven midsection. In addition, her breast surgery was not performed properly, leaving her with nipples that just do not look normal. Sadly, this really affected the celebrity’s career.

4. While Donatella Versace may rule the runway, she needs to stick to designing clothing. This biggest issue with Donatella’s botched plastic surgeries is that they lack subtlety. She is particularly notorious for over-the-top lip injections, leaving her mouth looking like she suffers from a massive bee sting or allergic reaction.

5. Joan Rivers is not only known for being funny but for being obsessed with fixing her face. It’s hard to say what she’s had done in total, but it likely includes neck liposuction, nose jobs and numerous face lifts. Like other queens of plastic surgery, Joan has taken it too far, done too much and just doesn’t look natural anymore.

6. It’s hard to know where to start with celebrity Courtney Love. She not only joins Tara Reid with botched abdominal liposuction, but also has had nose jobs that were less than impressive. Supposedly, she recognizes the error of her ways and has sworn off new procedures.

7. Janet Jackson has a few issues that earn her a spot of the list. Not only has she worked on her face like her famous brother Michael, but she also has breast implants that are less-than-stellar. In fact, in some photographs, you can see obvious dents around where her implants sit. She shares this post-surgery flaw with another celebrity, Vivica Fox.

8. Kenny Rogers proves that it isn’t just women who make mistakes under the knife. He has been open about his plastic surgery disappointment. After having a face lift to reduce smile lines, his eyes and brow look too stretched and taut. Strangely, it also makes his neck look heavier; hopefully, that won’t prompt him to try neck liposuction.

9. Once known for her trendy singing group, Victoria Beckham is now most often cited for a bad boob job. Not only are her breast implants too large for her small frame, but they are unnaturally round. In some shots, you can see excess skin in her armpits that spills out the side of sexy tops. While a bit of cleavage is always nice, armpit overage is just not pretty.

10. Two celebrities earn a spot for dental work. While not as common as other bad plastic surgery, teeth implants and veneers can look a bit obvious. Both Gary Busey and Hilary Duff are cited as having teeth that are just too big, too perfect or both.

The 31-year-old model and business woman was chosen to do the next trial alongside former boxer Joe Bugner, but refused and told her fellow campers that someone else would have to do the challenge as she had enough.

At long last, Jedward are out of the competition after being voted out of  X Factor last night when they were put up for eviction alongside Olly Murs.

The 18-year-old twins, James and Edward Grimes, received only one vote after their sing-off on Sunday evening, coming of course from their mentor Louis Walsh, who has no contestants left in the show.

The Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty, has married her long-term partner Raj Kundra in her native country of India this weekend.

The lavish Hindu ceremony took place near Mumbai and the couple are intending to travel between London and Mumbai after their honeymoon.

The rhinestone studded glove belonging to the late Michael Jackson has been sold at auction for a staggering $350,000, purchased by a Hong Kong businessman.

The actual glove is the one worn by the ‘King Of Pop’ in 1983 when he first performed his famous moonwalk routine on the Motown 25 TV special.

According to reports, Christine Bleakley has finally admitted that she is dating England footballer Frank Lampard after the pair were spotted at a pub yesterday.

Lampard separated from his Spanish fiancee Elen Rives, with who he has two daughters, last year while the TV presenter split with her fiance in January.

As usual for this time of year, the rush for the Christmas chart-topper begins but here’s an unlikely duo we weren’t expecting Rolf Harris and the Status Quo singer Rick Parfitt.

The song is said to be about Rolf’s Christmas as a child when the temperature in Australia would hit 104 degrees on Christmas day and they would head to the beach for a barbecue, well that’s something to look forward to then!

Michael Jackson’s son Prince Michael, 12, has allegedly inherited his fathers skin disease Vitiligo, which reported effects the male side of the family.

According to the report from La Toya Jackson, Prince has the disease on his arms and chest before she reported on how the children are coping with the loss of their father.

The Brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima has given birth to her first child, a daughter named Valentina Lima Jaric, and along with her husband Serbian basketball player Marko Jaric is said to be ecstatic.

The couple married on Valentine’s Day with the model getting pregnant just weeks afterwards.  Adriana is the second highest paid supermodel in the world after signing a contract with lingerie brand Victoria’s Secret, following in the footsteps of Heidi Klum.

The Michael Jackson Tribute concert that was due to take place in Vienna later this month, will now not be going ahead and has been rescheduled to take place in London, hopefully at Wembley in June 2010.

The main reason given for the change of plan was that many of the top artists were unable to change their schedules and would not therefore be able to appear in Vienna.  All ticket holders for the original event in Vienna are to receive a full refund.

Victoria Beckham has been invited along to promote her new perfume on the US Talk Show with Whoopi Goldberg, however, she has been banned from spraying the fragrance within a nine-metre radius of the hostess.

Goldberg had invited the former Spice Girl onto her show ‘The View’ but had forgotten that she was allergic to perfume, the audience members will each be given a bottle of the scent but must sign an agreement that they would not spray it inside the studio.

Lily Allen - GQ's 'Woman of the Year 2009'

Lily Allen was named GQ’s ‘Woman Of The Year’ last night at the men’s magazine’s annual award ceremony held at London’s Royal Opera House.

The Formula One driver Jenson Button was voted ‘Sportsman Of The Year’ at the prize-giving event with ‘Take That’ being awarded ‘Band Of The Year’.

During a British press conference today for the Michael Jackson Tribute show, Jermaine Jackson broke down and cried when he was asked about his families mourning process.

Jermaine stated that Michael didn’t just belong to his family but to the world and told of how are it had been to move on.  The tribute to the ‘King Of Pop’ takes place in Vienna, Austria on the 26th September, with a host of stars including Mary J Blige, Akon, Natalie Cole, Stevie Wonder, R. Kelly and Sister Sledge.

Former Spice Girl Mel C, has signed-up to make her debut on stage in the West End after joining the cast of one of the longest running musical shows ‘Blood Brothers’.

The 35-year-old singer, became a mother for the first time in February when she gave birth to daughter Scarlett and is said to appearing on the show from 26th October 2009.

Katie Price and her cage fighter boyfriend Alex Reid, were allegedly attacked on Saturday night while attending an evening at the ‘Extreme Brawl’ in London.

Reid was apparently challenged to a fight by a gypsy bare-knuckle boxer, who then punched him in the face, at the same time knocking Katie Price to the floor.  Neither of the pair were said to be injured, obviously not a very good punch then!

Michael Jackson’s white, jewel-encrusted glove, has allegedly sold for $49,000 at an auction in Australia, that is the actual glove Jackson wore at his wedding to Debbie Rowe in 1996.

The glove was bought by Warwick Stone, the Las Vegas Hard Rock curator, and is said to be the first of the gloves to go on sale, the other three are to be auctioned in America later this year.

The Coronation Street actress Samia Smith who plays the part of Maria Connor, and her husband, discovered the dead body of a young man in the back of a van after hearing a dog barking from the inside.

The couple, who are expecting their first child next month, were said to be visiting relatives in Sale, Greater Manchester, when they came across the body after looking into the back window of the van.

Jack Tweed, husband of the late Jade Goody, has been arrested today according to reports, amid claims that a teenager was sexually assaulted at his house in the early hours of this morning.

The 19-year-old victim, went to a police station this morning to report the attack, claiming that Tweed and a friend had put her through a degrading ordeal at the Tweed’s home.

Michael Jackson’s funeral finally took place last night attended by 200 mourners at the private family service, which began with the singers three children sharing a private moment with their fathers coffin which they placed a crown on top of.

Dame Elizabeth Taylor, 77, attended the service along with Lisa Marie Presley, Macaualy Caulkin, Stevie Wonder and Gladys Knight.

The pop star Pete Burns, singer of the band Dead Or Alive, today reached an out-of-court settlement of a reported £450,000 against a Harley Street plastic surgeon.

The 49-year-old singer, was left severely disfigured after undergoing a lip filling procedure.  Burns has since undergone over 100 operations to repair the damage and was at one point told that one option was to amputate his lips.

Adam Goldstein - DJ AM

The funeral of DJ AM took place yesterday in Los Angeles, where he was laid to rest in a private Jewish ceremony with friends and family in casual dress.

DJ AM, who’s real name was Adam Goldstein, survived a fatal plane crash in September 2008, along with Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker.  The 36-year-old, was found dead in at his Soho home on Friday, allegedly from a suspected suicide.

Comedian Phil Jupitus and singer Belinda Carlisle, have both joined the cast of the musical ‘Hairspray’, currently running in the West End.

Jupitus is to play the part of Edna Turnblad, taking over from Brian Conley and Carlisle is to be Velma Von Tussle, both will start their run at the Shaftesbury Theatre on 26th October.

According to reports, Michael Jackson is finally to be buried today at sunset, in a private ceremony at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles.

In a report in the Mirror, it claims that the ‘King Of Pop’ will have his coffin encased in cement after the ceremony to stop fans and grave robbers from interfering with the body.

Andrea Corr

Andrea Corr, from the family group ‘The Corrs’, married her fiance Brett Desmond today in County Clare, Ireland, with her two sisters Sharon and Caroline as bridesmaids.

The couple, who have been together for two years, held their reception at the nearby Doonbeg Golf Resort, surrounded by family and friends including Bono and Ali Henshaw , Patrick Kielty and Gordan Strachan.

The funeral of Michael Jackson has been delayed further and has now been rescheduled for the 3rd September.  No reason has yet been given for the change which means that he will not now be buried on his 51st birthday.

His family had planned to hold a small private afternoon ceremony on the 29th August at The Great Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Glendale, which is now to be held in the evening.

Ricky Martin this week posted a photograph of his twin sons on Twitter, as they celebrated their first birthday with a relaxing day at the beach.

Valentino and Matteo, were born through a surrogate mother, with Ricky taking a break in his career to singlehandedly  raise the boys along with a little help from his family.
