The boy wizard in the Harry Potter films, Daniel Radcliffe picked-up two awards on Sunday after he was named ‘The West End’s Newcomer of the Year’ for his performance in the drama ‘Equus’.

The young star said “I’m truly delighted and thank everyone so much for voting for me” after receiving his award at the Theatergoer’s Choice Award Ceremony.

The sexually charged drama also won ‘The Theatre Event of the Year’ award after the publicity photos of the semi-naked Daniel posing with a white stallion and his female co-star.

Radcliffe, 18 years old went onto say “Equus is a tremendous and thought-provoking play and I am so proud and honoured to have been a part of this incredible production”.

The play now features Lily Allen’s young brother, Alfie in the lead role.

The musical ‘Hairspray’ received seven gongs including ‘The Best Musical’ with Michael Ball taking the award for ‘Best Actor in a Musical’ in which he played mother Edna Turnblad.

Sir Ian McKellen won ‘Best Actor in a Play’ for the Shakespeare production of King Lear and the Best Musical revival went to ‘Joseph And His Amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat’ starring TV talent contest winner Lee Mead.
