David Walliams, star of Little Britain, was burgled while he was appearing at the live Sport Relief event.

The police are working on the theory that he was targeted by thieves who were aware that the house would be empty while he was in the studio.

Mr Walliams recently swam across the Gibraltar Strait with rower James Cracknell and a friend to raise money for the charity and went on to the live telethon to talk about the event.

David discovered the burglary on Saturday morning at his home, which used to be called Supernova heights and previously belonged to Noel Gallagher.

It has not been revealed to what exactly was taken but police were said to have spent five hours at the house searching for clues.  A neighbor said ” David was clearly very angry, as you’d expect.  There were no obvious signs of a brake-in and the house seems to be bristling with security.  It is clearly alarmed and there are grills over all of the windows so the burglars must have known what they were doing to get in.”

The police in Belsize Park, London have said there has been no arrests and enquiries are continuing.
