David Walliams First Book For Children

Joy Ryder - Thursday 17.04.08, 14:33pm

emilyLittle Britain star David Walliams, has written his first children’s book which will be published in October.

The book is called ‘The Boy In A Dress’ and is described as a “light” and “positive” story.  The Publishers, HarperCollins, said that the main character in the book finds his life changes “dramatically” when he finds he enjoys wearing the dress.

A spokeswoman for the book said “It is about how one ordinary boy can do something extraordinary and how it can change his life for the better.  It is a really lovely, touching story.”

Illustrations in the book have been done by Quentin Blake, who is best known for his work with Roald Dahl and Walliams said “I am thrilled beyond measure to be working with the legendary Quentin Blake.  I have adored his work since I was a child, and having him illustrate the book is a great honour.”

The two-book deal with HarperCollins was announced in December, and the company said that the debut book would be aimed at 8-12-year-olds.

David along with Matt Lucas are currently working on Little Britain in The US with the executive producer, Simon Fuller.  The six part series will begin shooting in the Autumn for broadcast in 2009 on pay-TV.  David said “We are taking some existing characters and writing new material for them, as well as introducing new characters and ideas.

Little Britain began as a radio programme six years ago and went onto become a stage show as the characters gained mainstream recognition on BBC television.  The TV series won eight Royal Television Society awards, three Bafta’s and an International Emmy.
