Jim Carrey the beloved actor and star of ‘Ace Ventura’, ‘The Mask’ and many others, has for years suffered from depression and he has now revealed that he is writing a self-help book on the illness.
Mr Carrey apparently used anti-depressants for years but has said that he now prefers a more spiritual approach than medication.
He was quoted as saying “I dealt with depression for a while by medicating with Prozac and although it was good for dealing with the problem there and then, I wasn’t getting to the bottom of my anger and frustration. I think we have a real problem these days in that everything is treated with a drug. I think there’s a whole new way of healing depression that doesn’t require drugs - and I’m writing a book about it.”
It was in November 2004 that Mr Carrey talked about his ‘black moods’ publicly, and the desperation he felt. Now he draws strength from the spiritual side of his life and says he doesn’t take anything “I rarely drink coffee. I’m very serious about no alcohol, no drugs. Life is too beautiful.”
He has recently said that he has now found happiness with girlfriend Jenny McCarthy.
