After serving only one-third of his prison term, Pete Doherty is to be released on Tuesday.
He was sentenced to 14 weeks in jail after not conforming with orders to take drug tests during a suspended sentence for possessing heroin, but having served only 29 days he will allowed to leave.
Apparently, this is due to the scheme which was introduced last summer to ease the overcrowding problems in jail. His sentence has been halved and another 18 days taken off as part of the scheme. He will also have another 2 days less to serve because of the time he spent in police custody.
A source told newspapers “He’s planning to go straight to play a gig - and then get smashed. He wants no business appointments for three days so he can really go for it.”
Organisers of Glastonbury are apparently pleased with his early release as it was uncertain if he would be out in time to perform at the festival, as he had already had to cancel two of his gigs in April due to his prison sentence.
Drew McDonnell, the Babyshambles bass guitarist said “He’s champing at the bit to play festivals this summer. Just to strap his guitar on again and be the front man in Babyshambles.”
