A host of celebrities have been lined-up to take part in a new TV Advertising scheme, which is aimed at encouraging people to read which will be screened for the first time on Tuesday evening.
The Government advert will include Geri Halliwell, Jo Brand, Bill Bailey, Jon Culshaw, Lenny Henry, Jo Caulfield and Lee Mack.
The celebrities will be seen playing ‘consequences’, where they will read lines from unconnected material to form a light-hearted narrative.
This is part of a government scheme for ‘The National Year of Reading’ which is about getting people to read anything, anytime and any place.
Apparently, the Prime Minister, Gorden Brown is hosting a reception at 10 Downing Street to celebrate the launch of the scheme.
Ed Balls, the Children, Schools and Families Secretary said “We hope that it will not only challenge peoples traditional perceptions of where and what they read, but also show that reading is an essential life skill which has never been more important. Parents can be key in leading this renaissance by making time to read with their children every day when they are young and encouraging them to carry on reading as they get older. Just a few minutes every day can make a real difference.”
